PBGC Releases ERISA Sections 4044 & 4050 Mortality Tables for 2023 Valuations

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) has published its annual update to mortality tables.

ERISA Section 4044 Mortality Table for 2023 Valuation Dates

Used to determine the present value of annuities in involuntary terminations and distress terminations of single-employer plans (per 29 CFR 4044).
Used when a multiemployer plan incurs a mass withdrawal (per 29 CFR 4281).

2023 ERISA Section 4050 (Missing Participants) Mortality Table

Used as part of the missing participant annuity assumptions to determine the benefit transfer amount (per 29 CFR 4050).
